How to Use Focused Target Market Segments (FTMS) For Success in QRM Projects

A Half-Day Masterclass,  Masterclass Leader: Professor Rajan Suri (Founder QRM)

Masterclass Description:

Quick Response Manufacturing (QRM) is a companywide strategy for reducing lead times throughout your enterprise. Using QRM companies have reduced their lead times by 80% or more, cut costs by over 20%, and gained market share. QRM has also enabled companies in advanced nations to compete successfully against manufacturers in low-cost countries.

QRM is not just a shop floor strategy, it applies throughout the enterprise, including in office processes and administration activities. A core concept in QRM is the formation of “QRM Cells” on the shop floor, and Q-ROCs (Quick Response Office Cells) in the office. The QRM approach to designing such cells is to first identify target opportunities in your business. Then a formal approach is used to sharpen these opportunities further, by refining them into Focused Target Market Segments (FTMS). Finally, you design cells to serve each FTMS.

This masterclass will teach attendees how to sharpen a target opportunity in order to form an FTMS. Attendees will learn techniques to help identify an FTMS, along with several practical tips and pointers. Attendees will engage in hands-on exercises to firm up the concepts.

Through the hands-on exercises and numerous case studies, attendees will see the power of the Focused Target Market Segment (FTMS) to support lead time reduction efforts.

In addition, attendees will see examples of how the FTMS concept enables you to “think outside the box” when forming QRM cells. You will learn that a QRM Cell is not a mini-copy of your current operation: by exploiting the power of the FTMS it is possible to completely rethink your processing steps and achieve huge reductions in lead time.

Note: Some previous knowledge of QRM will be helpful for this Masterclass, but is not necessary. (The class will begin with a brief overview of the core concepts of QRM.)
